What is PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma)?

Platelet-Rich Plasma, or PRP is an autologous concentrated
preparation of platelets and the associated growth factors in a small
volume of plasma. Platelets are a natural source of a number of growth
factors in their natural and biologically-determined ratios.

How do PRP Injections work?

PRP therapy uses injections of concentrated platelets and plasma of the patient’s own blood to naturally enhance the healing process of the damaged cells. The blood’s platelets contain proteins and other growth factors needed to accelerate the cell’s healing process.

For PRP injections to work a medical professional will draw the patient’s blood using a PRP kit then place the collected blood into an approved PRP centrifuge. The centrifuge will spin the PRP separating the red blood cells from the platelet rich plasma. The medical professional will then extract the prp from the prp tube and inject the platelets in the targeted area.

  • What conditions are treated with PRP?

Platelet rich plasma has been used across the medical industry for many different forms of rejuvenation.

PRP has become very popular in the cosmetic and aesthetic space for skin rejuvenation as well as hair restoration.

  • PRP is not limited to cosmetic procedures

Orthopedics opt into PRP treatment for injuries and sports medicine because of its successful results without surgery. PRP is used to treat various bone, tendon, joint, ligament and muscle injuries (tennis elbow, etc).

Dentists also use PRP injections for tooth extractions, periodontal surgery, and implants to speed up the wound-healing recovery process as well as heal soft tissue damage and bones.

  • Additional benefits for PRP therapy

    • Skin rejuvenation (renew face, neck, chest & hands)
    • Hair restoration for hair loss/pattern baldness
    • Sexual rejuvenation
    • Treats urinary incontinence and overactive bladder
    • Nerve damage and injury
    • Osteoarthritis

Who can perform PRP therapy?

Even though the PRP process seems straightforward, not just anybody can perform this procedure. The legal criteria for whom can perform PRP injections differs per state. If you are thinking about offering PRP therapy, we recommend you reach out to your state’s medical board to learn your state’s requirements.

Depending on the state PRP injections can be performed by a registered nurse, nurse practitioner or physician assistant under the supervision of a doctor. All medical professionals should be trained on the platelet rich plasma treatment process and protocol. PRP injections should be performed in a medical setting such as a med spa, dermatology office, orthopedic office, or dentist office.

Are PRP injections profitable?

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections are quite profitable. That is why many qualified medical practices and medical spas add this procedure
as an additional revenue stream, including dental offices.

The popularity of PRP therapy for aesthetics has boomed over the last few years as many of Hollywood elites partake in this procedure to restore their youthfulness in attempt to look forever young.  This is great for mainstream America and other countries due to the low cost of the procedure compared to their surgical alternatives. The average treatment cost between $500-$1,800 per patient depending upon the location, procedure and patient's condition.

Choosing the right PRP system is important for medical professionals to build trust in their clients and maximize their profits. Many PRP kits cost upwards of $150, which can affect a doctor’s profit margin. However, the Integrity Classic PRP Kit is only $80 and comes with two 15ml crystal PRP tubes

Is PRP covered by insurance?

Most often, PRP is not covered by insurance since many health insurance companies recognize PRP as an “experimental treatment”. Some insurance companies DO cover PRP , although the coverage depends on the condition or injury being treated (i.e. tennis elbow, chronic knee osteoarthritis for example).

We advise that you talk with your insurance provider to learn if your current plan covers PRP and how.
