What is a balance tube?
A balance tube is a tube filled with water or saline to match the weight of the sample PRP or PRF tube in a centrifuge. Its main purpose is to balance the rotor during centrifugation, preventing uneven forces that could damage the machine or cause improper separation.
Why should providers use a balance tube for PRP and PRF?
Providers should use a balance tube to maintain rotor stability and safety during centrifugation. Proper balancing helps avoid mechanical failures, reduces wear and tear on the centrifuge, and ensures consistent, high-quality separation of platelets and fibrin in PRP and PRF procedures. A balance tube is especially important any time you are spinning an uneven number of PRP or PRF tubes (such as 1, 3, 5, etc.) to keep the rotor evenly weighted.
We recommend filling the balance tube to the top of the white Integrity label with water or saline to accurately match the weight.
